Road and Sidewalk Maintenance

How Maintenance is Managed Makes All the Difference

Maintenance is often a major contributory factor in loss occurrences – especially in winter or inclement weather. It is always a factor in risk reduction. Because of its massive complexity, maintenance factors are the least understood and most overlooked factors in road (and sidewalk) safety.

Just how complex can maintenance be?

It’s not enough to have sufficiently up-to-date procedures – a big judgment call itself. They have to be followed and documented accurately. They have to be adjusted to account for reasonably expected conditions, based on weather reports for example. Another informed judgment call.

To determine contributory or risk factors, it’s also essential to look at inspection and patrol policies, performance directives and implementation procedures. Fitness and availability of equipment along with adequate numbers and training of staff are vital too. Are all these up to snuff?

You can see where this is headed.

If you’ve experienced a loss or want to prevent one, GK’s expert team can give you an accurate, defensible assessment of essential maintenance dimensions such as:
• Patrolling policies and actions
• Call-in procedures
• Staff and equipment adequacy
• Material applications and rates
• And more
